Evidence of compliance

Evidence of compliance is the body of records that demonstrates to an independent party — auditor, regulator, court or parent company — that a control was actually performed, on whom, on what date, with what result, and under whose responsibility. Its defining property is that it can be verified without relying on the testimony of whoever produced it. Policies describe what a company says it does; evidence shows what it did.
