Expediting

Expediting is the active follow-up of issued purchase orders to confirm, update and anticipate supplier-committed delivery dates, so that materials and services are available when the operation needs them. It differs from passive tracking in that it does not wait for the supplier to report: it contacts, requires confirmation and records the response. Its output is a reliable current date, distinct from the order's original date.
