Politically exposed person (PEP)

A politically exposed person is someone who holds or has held a prominent public function, along with their close family members and associates, and who is therefore considered to carry elevated corruption and money laundering risk. PEP status is not an accusation or a bar to contracting — it triggers additional scrutiny, documentation of the relationship, and in many frameworks senior approval. Which positions qualify and for how long is defined by each jurisdiction.
